Pigmentation Disorders

Numerous conditions can cause your skin to become darker or lighter. The resulting uneven skin tone can be highly distressing. At Arlington Dermatology, we can help diagnose the cause of your hyper or hypopigmentation and provide treatment options to help you restore a clear, even skin tone if desired.

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is an acquired depigmenting skin disorder in which pigment is lost from the skin in patches. This condition can affect patients of all ages and backgrounds. While the pigment loss is asymptomatic, vitiligo can make the skin more sensitive to the sun and be very cosmetically distressing.

Melasma

Melasma is a common acquired skin condition where dark blotches patches of skin can appear on the face. This condition tends to be more common in females and usually presents in young adulthood.
